Curriculum
At Salterford House pupils work hard in a warm and supportive environment.
Emphasis is placed on the development of literacy and numeracy skills from an early age, so children from Reception upwards can also explore other subjects such as Science, Geography, History, DT, Art and French.
We follow the National Curriculum as this enables children to maintain continuity in their education as they move on to senior schools. It also allows us to keep pace with modern developments in education as well as giving us a system to keep parents informed of their children's progress and a comparison with national achievement. A high proportion of children at Salterford House achieve examination success for selective schools. Popular destinations for our pupils after Year 6 are Nottingham High School, Nottingham Girls' High School, Hollygirt School, Trent College and Worksop College.
We are committed to helping children to learn and we combine traditional methods such as learning tables and spellings with more modern trends in ICT and Computing, History, Art, DT and Geography work.
The children have PE and Games lessons twice a week, they are taught Music by a specialist music teacher and all children take part in Drama lessons. In recent years, we have introduced Outdoor Learning into our curriculum along with Thunks (a problem solving and debate lesson), Thrive (a lesson designed to support Wellbeing) and Gardening.
Many children will have additional Music and/or Speech & Drama lessons. This helps children to develop in confidence, academically and socially. They also have the opportunity to gain music exam grades, as well as LAMDA certificates in Speech and Drama.
